the ron paul phenomenon.

the widespread liberal youth support for texas representative ron paul continues to confuse me. initially i saw the appeal or his harsh words for the bush foreign policy doctrine and the bush domestic spying policy. however, the more i heard him speak, the less i was able to understand the "ron paul revolution." ron paul has continually touted his view that the department of education should be "eliminated." basically, he believes public education should be privatized and run by the same corporate megaliths that are (in my opinion) ruining our country. realistically, i could go on for at least another few paragraphs of rep. paul's views that conflict with those of his supporters (complete denial of the peril of our planet and sexist position of anti-choice) but, i think i got my point across. the 'ron paul revolution,' which is widely supported young liberals is a 'revolution' based on idealistic, sexist, and ignorant approaches to domestic issues and issues of personal liberty.

into the wild

finished reading into the wild last night before bed. whoever has not read that book, i strongly suggest it. (there is a movie out too, so if you don't like reading, see it) i have a couple classes til one today, then i'm coming back here to make some food real quick. riding down to the train station and taking it to west trenton, where dale is going to pick me up, and we're going to see the mountain goats at nyu.. pretty much excited for that. this was my last full week of classes... classes til wednesday next week, then finals week after that. weird. read 'into the wild.'

hump day.

according to many studies, wednesday is the most depressing day of the week. when i woke up this morning i couldn't even see the city because of all the fog and it seemed like it was going to be one of those wednesdays. but, since then i have had granola cereal and learned a new song and things are looking up. come get me, wednesday.

randolph

this weekend was really great. spent it in north jersey with simone. it was refreshing to get out of the city for a while and really get a feel of the many hued leaves of fall. we were in randolph on sunday morning... drove by my old house and then went to shongum lake (the local lake where we all used to hang out). it was a really strange feeling. i was so incredibly happy, but i had tears in my eyes. that town is intense to me. i thought i did, but sometimes i really don't want to grow up.

capital punishment.

pops and broski came to hang out in philly with simone and i on saturday. we went to the zoo, it was really great, even though the facts about all the endangered animals lessened my hope (even more) for the human race. watched the life of david gale last night with simone. (if anyone hasn't seen that, get on it). went to the art museum today and marveled over a few pieces in particular (van gogh's sunflowers and a couple monet's). simone just left, kyle should be back any minute. it's nice out, i think i'll go for a ride.
